Zigzags & Circles

Have you ever climbed a mountain before? I have in Guatemala, years ago. You needed some endurance for that hike but it was manageable. I still remember the next morning waking up literally in the clouds. It was the craziest thing. I also got a picture with a donkey. So…. I guess there’s that.

Now, have you ever climbed a figurative mountain? The majority of us here in the U.S. don’t really climb physical mountains on a day to day, so I would like to assume we don’t think about HOW to climb a mountain.

Although you may want to climb a mountain straight up to the top, because it is the shortest distance, the gravitational pull is more and more intense for each step you take. If you want to go a longer distance, climbing a mountain in a zigzag pattern minimizes the gravitational pull. Therefore, it is easier to climb a mountain in a zigzag pattern.

The mountain I climbed in Guatemala wasn’t straight up. The pathway actually spun around the mountain in circles.

Sometimes you may feel like you are going in zigzags and circles, but God is still taking you to the top.

Sometimes you may feel shortchanged because you don’t have your reward yet, but God is telling you, slow, steady, constant, intentional, wins the race.

Sometimes you may think, “God told me to do this but it wasn’t supposed to be this way. I feel lost.” Your God has never left your side.

Sometimes you may feel exhausted by the gravitational pull of circumstances, challenges, people, and culture but don’t allow those to wear you down.

Don’t hate on the zigzags and circles you are traveling because God is still taking you upward, to your victory.

I’m timesaver lady to the extreme! I’m the person who will load up her arms with grocery bags just so she doesn’t have to take a second trip back to the car. Yes, it would be amazing if I could power through, in a straight path, up my mountains, but a linear, uphill climb isn’t always the case or the way. I can resent that OR I can accept that; accept the fact that the winding road God has put me on is actually for my protection and my best (those gravitational pulls, man).

“Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you” Psalm 25:4-5

If God has shown you the right path already, don’t allow fear to keep you from traveling it and don’t quit when the going gets tough. You have a God who goes with you, and saves you.

When you have a destination in mind, a calling you’re running after, an end goal in sight, the zigzags can be annoying or overwhelming. Have patience and keep moving forward.  To get to your top, you may have to wind arounddddd a few times, but don’t get discouraged.  God didn’t promise us things would be easy, BUT He did promise that it would be WORTH it.

Choose worth over easy, any day.

“You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.” Hebrews 10:36

Things to pray over yourself as you zig zag & circle your way up to the top:

Strength that will lead you to patience.

Persistence in doing good.

That God will give you joy as you put your hope in Him.

Endurance to keep going.

That peace will be given as you trust in Him.

That the testing of your faith will produce perseverance.
