Iffff you’reeee happy and you know it clap your hands!

Iffff you’reeee happy and you know it and you really want to show it.

Iffff you’reeee happy and you know it- CLAP YOUR HANDS!

We’ve been singing about wanting to be happy ever since we were young!

Now that we are adults, it’s easy to lose our contentment.  When we are blinded by our difficult trials and what we are going through – we can lose our joy in the blessings we have.

It’s easy to get sucked into the desire for bigger, better, and more, because we are in a culture that pushes for the bigger, the better…more.

Its not enough for your kid to just graduate; they have to graduate with honors!
It’s not enough to land your dream job that you love; you need to go farther and be the top dog.

I know people tell you that you are perfect just the way you are but… you’re not. So  let’s put some botox in your face.

You have a nice house…. but you know what would make it better? “His” and “her” sinks, a walk in closet, and an 8-car garage! Then… then you will be happy. Thank you “House Hunters.”

If you are not happy with what you have today, you will not be happy with what God gives you tomorrow.

Contentment starts in the heart! And when it gets into your heart, it changes your thinking. Your thinking then influences your actions, which leads to a lifestyle of contentment. Choose to live content; satisfied with what you have.

In Philippians 4:11, Paul writes, “For I have learned how to be content with whatever I have.” You know where he penned that quote? From prison!

A lack of contentment happens when our expectations are not rooted in truth. When they are not rooted in truth, we will find ourselves in quicksand. When we develop our own expectations, outside of God’s word, we become stuck.

1. Comfortability does not equal contentment.

That’s a lie that leaves us disappointed and unsettled. Most people think, “well, when I am comfortable, that’s when I know that I am content!” If we use feelings as a measurement of how content we are, we will find ourselves riding the rollercoaster of highs and lows.

2. Comparison kills contentment

Comparing our lives to other people’s lives, in real life or on social media, kills our happiness. We’re totally ok…. UNTIL we see someone doing something else “better” than we are.

Then, before you know it… you’re the “must be nice” person in the room.

MUST BE NICE… to go on vacation, sippin’ a fancy drink with a mini umbrella in it!

MUST BE NICE… to have your kids all cleaned up, outside on your manicured lawn, with their cute “first day of school”  signs.

MUST BE NICE… to renovate your home… and have all white everything…. looking spotless…. 24/7

Don’t be the “must be nicer” … God created you to be uniquely YOU. Content with who you are and who you are designed to be.

3. Access Denied: Complacency

Can’t I just coast though?! If I’m content… then… I’M GOOD! No! What’s the fun in that?! Just because you are content with where you are does not mean you settle there. God wants us to be happy with where we are, while we are on our way to where He wants us to be. Living content doesn’t give you permission to stall and be lazy.

Never stop growing. Always use what you have in your hands. Your gifts and talents are meant to help and give hope to other people. So do something with what you have!

Keep raising the bar, keep pressing forward. God has so much good ahead of you. But as you grow, stay content.

4. Trust Fall!

No matter what season you are in, God invites you to trust Him. He is more than enough for you! “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.” – Isaiah 21:10

God always has your back! His word is full of promises for you that will build you up through the tough and easy times. God promises overflow, not just taking care of you, but giving you more than enough.

The question is, how much do we trust Jesus? Scripture teaches us that, “true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth” (1 Timothy 6:6).

We contain all the wealth in the world, when we remain godly and content.

Be content. Remember, it is a choice. Choose to live content.
